No Kill is Love Tour 2014
Last Thursday evening I went into Boston and saw the film Redemtion followed by a seminar by Nathan Winograd. In case you do not know who Nathan is just do a google search and his blog and facebook page will pop up. He is an amazing man who is leading the No Kill movement in the United States. He has written several books and has been involved with writing laws/legislation to help improve the lives of shelter pets (he is a lawyer). His wife Jennifer is just as amazing as he is. They both share the same passion and are what I would consider to be a power couple. Nathan always refers yo Henry Bergh (the founder of the ASPCA) as the Great Meddler since he bucked the trends for how society treated the animals. Bergh would be incredibly angry if he knew what the ASPCA does now. I would consider both Nathan and his wife the Great Meddlers of today - going against the big animal welfare groups and government run pounds for how they think animals should be treated in "shelters" As he says, "For most animals, the first time they are ever abused, mistreated, or neglected is when they enter a shelter". He is working to make the United States a No Kill nation, but he needs everyone's help. Because of him there are hundreds of shelters that are No Kill and more becoming No Kill. Just think how many times you've taken in an animal and kept it or tried to rehome it because you did not want to take it to a shelter where it mught be killed? I do it all the time and it's time to make these "shelters" true shelters where the animals down on their luck are taken care of and found loving homes. Love it and love Nathan and Jennifer!
Nathan grasiously posed for a picture with me after the event!
